Caterpillar D8R Track-Type Tractor
The Caterpillar D8R crawler tractor was introduced in 1995 in the USA to replace the D8N. Production began in Brazil a year later.
Features
The D8R has a 3406C engine producing 305 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with an advanced modular cooling system (AMOCS). The D8R also increased torque 55 percent from the D8N, reduced emissions, and built a larger fuel tank.
The D8R was manufactured in the USA, with a 7XM serial number prefix, and in Brazil, with a 9EM prefix.
Modifications
In 2000 and 2001, Caterpillar introduced D8R Series II, which has a 3406E engine producing 310 FWHP. It comes standard with freewheel stator, single stage torque converter, comfort series seat, ecology drain, a new single stage torque converter, and differential steering.
The D8R II was manufactured in the USA, with a 6YZ prefix, and in Brazil, with an AKA prefix. Production of the 7XM ended in 2002.
Production of 6YZ and AKA ended in 2005.
The Caterpillar D8R was replaced by the Caterpillar D8T. Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 10,600 Caterpillar D8R crawler tractors.
